It's that time of year again - time for Tour de Office at Scout Talent! This year, our Ride Week starts on Monday 10 October 2022 and incidentally, that is World Mental Health Day! This is a World Health Organisation initiative that aims to raise awareness of mental health issues worldwide and mobilise efforts to support mental health. Did you know that 1 in every 8 people is living with a mental health disorder? Moreover, every one of us experiences challenges on a daily basis, which can impact our mental health for better or worse. At the same time, the services, skills and funding available for mental health remain in short supply and fall far below what is needed, especially in low and middle-income countries. Physical exercise is just one of the ways that we can take care of ourselves and our mental health, and set ourselves up for success each day. However, it's important to acknowledge the limits of self-care and the need for professional intervention, research, and support. Speaking of... Each year, the team at Scout Talent nominates and votes on a charity to support with our donations. This year, we're raising funds for Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to support research that makes Alzheimer’s disease treatable and preventable. With the vital assistance of supporters, they can do just that. Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation conducts research from observational, preventative and treatment perspectives in an effort to better understand the causes of Alzheimer's disease, develop earlier diagnostic techniques, and identify treatments and interventions for those affected. I will be riding 5 times over 5 days to support the more than 55 million people worldwide who have dementia, 60--70% of whom are living in low- and middle-income countries.
