Why am I taking part

Throughout my life I've been extremely fortunate to have enjoyed a healthy, active and well-balanced life, and to have raised two very healthy young teenage girls. However I've heard family and friends mention their children or others they know haven't been as fortunate, resulting in some very difficult times. For this reason, i've always been willing to help others, offer my time and also donate for others not as fortunate. In saying that, my life was travelling along quite nicely up until twelve months ago, when i was involved in what seemed like a minor accident. Unfortunately a few days later i was laying in RPH ICU in an induced coma after suffering a stroke. Following surgery, weeks in ICU and then Fiona Stanley Hospital, i've spent the last rehabilitating at Fiona Stanley and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals, and at home. Although my situation was extremely serious, in comparison to other patients i spoke to and had seen during my stay in hospital and subsequent visits, I was extremely fortunate to have recovered enough to be enjoying life once again. Other patients won't or may not be as fortunate. Many of the people I met and witnessed made my situation seem quite insignificant. Twelve months later, i'm extremely grateful to be enjoying a somewhat 'normal' life, including being back at work (although still at reduced hours/days), enjoying the outdoors once again, and spending as much as time possible with my two gorgeous girls and partner. Looking forward, this small set-back won't stop me living my life how i want it to be, as i've seen so many others that will never have this luxury. I feel very lucky to be part of this charity event, as there are many others that would like to, but simply aren't able to.
